« DIALOGUE ON DIALECT STANDARIZATION»

Carrie Dyck, Karen Rice, Tania Granadillo, Jorge Emilio Rosés Labrada.

The aim of the workshop is to provide a space for the development of dialogue between dialectologists, language community activists, and others working on the development of orthographies regarding the issues that arise during the creation of writing systems in places where there is dialect variation and there is no writing system, or there is a writing system for a national language but not for the particular language. Presentations will be 20 minutes in length, followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Please note that there could also be sessions for poster presentations depending on participants’ interest.

Please submit your abstract, of up to 300 words excluding bibliography, by e-mail attachment (as Word, RTF or PDF files – please use PDF if there are any potential problems with fonts) to <methods14@uwo.ca>. Put ‘ABSTRACT FOR DIALOGUE ON STANDARDIZATION’ IN THE SUBJECT LINE. Make the abstract as anonymous as possible, and include the title. In the body of your e-mail message, include the contact details of author(s) and a statement as to whether the paper is intended for oral presentation, a poster session or either.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 December 2010. The anonymous abstracts will be refereed by the Workshop organizing committee, and authors will be notified of acceptance before the end of January 2011.

The main language of the conference is English but specific sessions may be conducted in French.
