The fourteenth Methods in Dialectology will be held at the University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario, Canada) from Tuesday August 2 to Saturday August 6, 2011.* Themes and keynote speakers will be announced at a later date. Papers are invited on all subjects in the field of dialectology, from scholars working on any language or language group, on any topic in regional, social, and historical language variation. Presentations will be 20 minutes in length, followed by a 10-minute discussion period. There will also be sessions for poster presentations. Abstracts, of up to 300 words excluding bibliography, should be submitted by e-mail attachment (as Word, RTF or PDF files – please include specialized fonts where appropriate) to <methods14@uwo.ca>. Please make the abstract as anonymous as possible, and include the title, contact details of author(s) and a statement as to whether the paper is intended for oral presentation, a poster session or either in the body of your e-mail message. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 30 November, 2010 (NOTE: this date has been revised since our initial Call to allow for greater participation). They will be refereed anonymously by the Methods Steering Committee, and authors will be notified of acceptance before the end of January 2011.
There are already a number of workshop sessions proposed, details of which will be posted soon.
The main language of the conference is English but specific sessions or workshops may be conducted in French. Proposals for sessions in other languages should be addressed to the organizing committee.
