Location: Methods presentations will be held at Talbot College on the main campus of the University of Western Ontario. To see the University Map click here.
Weather: London and region have been experiencing high temperatures this summer, with significant humidity (and occasional thunderstorms, though perhaps not enough). Please remember to bring sunscreen, a hat and/or an umbrella. Weather Network 14 day forecast for London will give you an idea of what to expect: the weather network fourteen-day forecast
Travel to and from accommodations:
-
For those staying at Elgin Hall (UWO Residence B&B), Talbot College is an approx 5 minute walk west across the bridge towards Main Campus (you will see the UC tower with the flag at the top of the hill, but you don't have to climb the hill!)
To see the University Map click here.
(Elgin Hall is at centre-right of the map on the eastern approach to campus, above the Kings College insert). -
For those who are staying at the Station Park Inn on Richmond, Talbot College is an approximately 35-40 minute walk or a 10-12 minute bus ride.
To see it on Map Quest click here.
London Transit, #6 Richmond northbound (see the schedule here): Ask the driver to let you off at Delaware Hall, which is right across from Talbot College) NOTE: there should be approximately 3 buses per hour weekdays, less frequent evenings, weekend and holidays (Monday August 1 is a statutory holiday in Ontario).
-
If driving, you will find coin-entry parking ($4) in the Medway lot behind Elgin Hall. There may be limited (and more expensive) visitor parking across the street from Talbot College in the Talbot lot.
-
But who really wants to drive if you don't have to? All delegates will receive a free London Transit pass in your welcome package, valid for August 1-6. There are also bike rentals available at Elgin Hall.
-
Taxi cabs: we recommend London Yellow Taxi 519 657 1111.
Registration: we will have your packages on hand Monday August 1 at Elgin Hall and from Tuesday August 2 in the entrance area at Talbot College.
Of historical interest: Thanks to the kindness of Joan Beal (from her personal records), you may find it interesting to peruse the Program for Methods 3, 1978. As you can see from the 1978 Welcome Letter, some things change and some things don't: the first Monday in August is still a holiday in Ontario, but it now goes by a variety of different names, and there are still a limited number of outlets where you can buy alcohol (though perhaps more than in 1978). Also of possible historical interest, a blast from the past on Friday August 5, downtown after the banquet.
If you have other Methods memorabilia from previous conferences you'd like to share, please let us know at methods14@gmail.com.
