Scope of session
Two very successful conferences on English Historical Dialectology (EHD) have been held at the Universityof Bergamo in 2003 and 2007 (see http://dinamico2.unibg.it/anglistica/slin/ehd1-home.html and www.unibg.it/struttura/struttura.asp?cerca=2icehd_intro:Dossena/Lass 2004 and 2009). For the next planned meeting in 2011 it seems desirable that the focused discussion on individual projects should occur within the framework of this bigger international event with a longer scientific tradition. In this way participants will have the opportunity to present findings to and get feedback from a wider range of delegates.
Papers are expected to concentrate on methodological issues, data and scientific research questions centred on English and European Dialectology in a historical perspective – ranging from the 11th to the 19th century. Special attention to sociolinguistic variation in time is welcome.
The publication of the proceedings is envisaged in an independent volume.
